Michael and his wife Vicki Hankins complete their 39th year of full-time ministry in June 2011. A native Texan, Michael is a graduate of Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA and served in two churches in Tulsa after leaving ORU in 1972. Michael served along side his father and mother, Pastor B. B. and Velma Hankins at Gulf Coast Christian Center, West Columbia, Texas for 14 years prior to moving to Rockwall, Texas to serve on the pastoral staff of Church on the Rock. He became Senior Pastor there in 1990. In July 1996 the church relocated to Rowlett, Texas and joined the Christian City Church International movement, becoming Christian City Church Metro-Dallas. In January 2007 the church was re-named, Church in the City.

Michael and Vicki celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary in May, 2011.  They have 3 daughters, Julie, Lyndi, and Kynsie, and a son, Ryan.  Julie is married to Pastor Eddie Woods, Jr., Kynsie is married to Pastor Mark Zakem, Lyndi is married to Mark Rohde and Ryan is married to Andrea Hankins.  The Hankins have four granddaughters, Madison, and Allyson Woods, Olivia Rohde and Lilly Grace Hankins and four grandsons, Luke Rohde, Hudson Woods, Quintin Hankins and Paxton Zakem.
